“At the end of September 2025, we had the opportunity to spend a whole day experiencing how a book festival day is organized on site – full of games, activities, and of course, many books. Right from the start, we began talking with the children: a simple “Tschao sü njang? – What’s your name?” was enough, and joyful encounters immediately unfolded. The children played, laughed, and explored the books with curiosity. We had the chance to observe Khamkeo, Huk, and Yim closely and saw how much passion and experience goes into this work. The Reading Elephant team not only provides access to books – they create learning spaces, opportunities, and encounters that empower children and nurture community growth. The teachers also took time for us and invited us to join them for lunch. This made clear how important long-term support is – and how much still remains to be done. Many schools in rural Laos still have very limited access to reading materials or basic learning resources. At the end of the day, we returned home fulfilled and moved. We hadn’t just gained insight into the project work – we had witnessed the power that books, attention, and playful learning can unleash. A day that resonates. A project that works. And children whose joy we will surely never forget, which is why we want to remind everyone: every donation helps!”
