Bounthong Vongsavanh

was a senior consultant at Reading Elephant Laos. Bounthong sadly died on May 27 in the age of 61. Like his son Khamkeo, he came from the village of Ban Numpouk in Bokeo and grew up there. During his childhood years there were no kindergartens or pre-schools in Laos. He finished secondary school in 1977 and got the chance to continue his studies at secondary level II. Din Leuangmany (Din)

Din has been working full-time at Reading Elephant Laos’ second learning and reading centre in the district of Pha Oudom since July 2026. He was born in the village of Hom Souk, which is also where Yim comes from. He grew up there and attended primary school there too. He then attended upper secondary school in the village of Poung. Yim Seangpasert (Yim)

Yim has been a full-time member of staff at Reading Elephant Laos since 2022, having previously joined the team as a student volunteer. He was born in the village of Hom Souk, Pha Oudom District, Bokeo Province, one of eleven children, and attended primary school there. Huk Malaisuk

Huk is a permanent project member at Reading Elephant Laos since February 2019. She was born and raised in the village of Phonxay, Xayaboury province. Huk studied at Luang Prabang Teacher Training College and graduated in 2015. She enjoys working with children very much. She joined our team to work with students in the reading room and as a librarian as well for attending travelers in our bookshop.

Phaivanh Philainthavong (Touy)

is a permanent project member at Reading Elephant Laos. Born in a village in Luang Prabang province, Touy is responsible for the organisation of the library stock, the book lending and is actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the village book festivals. is a freelance journalist in Vientiane. He works part-time in planning, monitoring and evaluating project activities and in public relations, maintains contacts with partners and supporters and represents Reading Elephant Laos at events in the capital. He comes from the village of Nontae in Vientiane province and graduated from the National University of Laos as an English teacher. During his stays in Bokeo, he supports the project in the reading room or at book festivals as an educator.

Khamkeo Vongsavanh (Keo)

is one of the founders of the project and managing director of Reading Elephant Laos. Khamkeo was born in the village of Numpouk in Bokeo Province, where his father, Bounthong, was headteacher of the local primary school.
